Double Team Victory!!

bikes emerge from travel bags... Oh, the looks we get in the airport!

Hola!

Made it down to Puerto Rico after some extended travel due to a missed connection and subsequent overnight stay in Dallas Fort Worth airport.  Probably not the worst way to start off our season as it wasn't like a volcanic dust cloud or anything... In the end, really nothing more than a reminder that the travel does not always go as planned.

As always, Mike tuning the race bikes

Even as we settle in down here we are already recovering from the first of two XC races that were the reason for us visiting this action packed island.  This was a UCI cat 2 that took place this past weekend in Florida, Puerto Rico.  Mike and I felt pretty good competing in the tropical conditions and were both able to charge off the front of our respective races right from the start.  After a solid day of racing out on our own we are happy to report a double team victory!

Pre riding the semi muddy track (BEFORE the rains came)

Racing here was a great opportunity to test our fitness after a long winter of training in conditions and places far from these.  The tropical downpours were the feature of the day which added greatly to the challenge of staying upright on what became incredibly slick muddy jungle trails.  We both enjoyed racing on the predominantly tight and technical track that wound through some beautiful dense tropical forests and tested our skills with rooty drops and ancient coral rock gardens.

It is our fifth year of returning to race on this busy island and as usual we were greeted with a warm welcome.   It was nice to reconnect with friends and fans we have made over the years and fun to kick back and enjoy the flavorful and unique race scene (complete with 3 diverse puerto rican bands).  Great to see a vibrant and thriving tribe of the bike continuing to grow in Puerto Rico!

Mike and I are looking forward to more of the same this Sunday in Rincon, at the Ultimate Dirt Challenge - a perennial favorite for sure!

All the best,
Mary and Mike

Post race glamor.  the bike rocked.
