Metropole The Crest Collection by The Ascott Limited

If you're looking for the perfect place to stay in Bangkok, look no further: you've found the Metropole

The Metropole is one of the most romantic places to stay in Bangkok with every luxury you would expect from a nice hotel and more.

But the Metropole is so much more than a luxury hotel: it's actually an apartment-hotel hybrid - you'll have all the conveniences and luxuries of a hotel, but still have the privacy and freedom of an apartment!

We stayed for two nights at the Metropole and this is what we thought:

Check-in

Check-in is in one of the most beautiful lobbies we've ever seen: spacious, with gorgeous architecture and fresh flowers. The gorgeous architecture continues throughout the building - it was inspired by the elegant colonial architecture and cultural fusion of the Thai 'Golden Age'.

Although the hotel is brand new (built in 2016) at no point does it feel clinical or of bad taste - it toes that line between modern and classic perfectly, by complementing high quality services and amenities you'd expect from a new hotel, with tasteful decor and kind staff.

We were served fresh towels and cooling drinks on check-in, the staff were very lovely and polite - albeit a little slow with checking us in.

Next to the check-in area is a comfy residents' lounge complete with a small library of books to read.

Our room

Our room had a ginormous, super-comfy bed; a massive TV with lots of good channels (aka there were movies and they were in English); and the wifi was some of the fastest we've ever seen.

The bathroom was awesome too - spacious with beautiful decor. The toiletries went above and beyond - not just the standard soap and shampoo, there was also conditioner, toothbrush, toothpaste, lotion, shaving kit and more! Plus it all smelt incredible.

The toilet was one of those special Japanese ones with lights and bidets and everything! It even had a dryer built into it.

The Kitchen

One of our favourite things about our room was the fact that it had a kitchen. And a fully equipped kitchen at that. Now when I say that the Metropole has a fully equipped kitchen, I mean it. Lots of apartments in Thailand (and South East Asia in general) will claim to have a fully equipped kitchen, but once you look around (or move in) you'll find that that means just a microwave, a kettle and a small bowl or two.

The kitchens at the Metropole really are fully-equipped and include: a hob, microwave, kettle, fridge, toaster, coffee machine and plenty of glassware, cutlery, crockery and utensils.

And don't worry, it's not like you will have all these amazing facilities but have to walk miles to get food - there's a supermarket right next door and lots of local markets nearby.

Breakfast
Breakfast is held downstairs. On our first day there was a full buffet complete with delicious potatoes, fruits, juices, tea, coffee, toasts (and eggs and meats for those that eat them).

On our second day we thought we'd missed breakfast - the buffet wasn't there! But instead our nice waitress explained that it was from a set menu instead - we could choose Thai, Western or Mediterranean. We were curious and went for Mediterranean and weren't disappointed!

Pool, sauna and gym

There is a small but well equipped gym, two saunas and a pool at the Metropole. Like all swimming pools in South East Asia, the pool is cold and shallow. Trust me, you'll want the pool to be cold as it gets swelteringly hot in Bangkok!

Even if you don't like to swim, this area is perfect for hanging out in - we loved the greenery.

The Spa

One of the absolute best parts of the Metropole is the fact that it is attached to Prim Thonglor Spa - you don't have to leave the hotel at all, you can just walk through into the spa.

We enjoyed a three hour long Absolute Prim's Treatment here.

It included an Organic Aroma Massage with Himalayan Crystal Salt Pot Compress and Organic Facial Treatment with a touch of Guasa Acupressure Technique - we felt like new, completely zen people afterwards! Highly recommended!

Location
We loved the location of the Metropole (an area called Thonglor): it's an upmarket residential area with plenty of trendy restaurants and shops.

There are plenty of places nearby to the hotel to try authentic Thai street food and even a proper market or two.

Personally, we liked that the Metropole isn't right next to seedy areas like Soi Cowboy and Khaosan Road, but for those who still want to try that don't worry, there are plenty of taxis and/or there's a free shuttle from the Metropole to the BTS.

The Crest Collection
The Metropole is part of a bigger circuit of hotels called the Crest Collection by the Ascott Limited, these can be found in many places around the world. We stayed at another of the Ascott's serviced apartments in Bangkok Citadines Sukhumvit 23 and loved that one too!

Conclusion

All in all, the Metropole is one of the best romantic places to stay whilst in Bangkok! They have everything you need and more.

To book your own stay head over to their website: Metropole Bangkok or find them on Agoda

Disclaimer: Travelling Weasels were invited as guests of the Metropole but as always all opinions are our own. We would never recommend anything we haven't personally tried and loved.
