A cherished moment |
Taking some time for a re up on the other things that get us stoked, away from the bike racing, is an important part of staying on track and enjoying our committed lifestyle. Briefly stepping back from the high level competition also leaves room for a lot of other activities. This has led us into a good number of alternative projects back home and miles away from cycling in general.

Concord Grape Harvest - Off to make fruit leather! |
After so much time on the road it's clear to us that living in a house with the physical possibility to store way more gear than in a mobile/vehicle based situation is a mixed bag. For sure it is nice to feel the stability, and great to have space, and etc, but it feels overshadowed by the added burden of responsibility for all those things that surround you.

home repairs |
Half way into a re-construction project I pulled a shingle off the house that I signed the back of hung in 1978! Good thing this project is on the sunny side of the house cause its looking to go well into December.

On the front porch in 1978 with my brothers (L-R) Steve, Dan, Tim (and me). |
Mary and I have been dedicated to making sure we get in as much time outside during the fleeting day light hours. The shortest days of the year have been slipping by at an alarming rate and we are doing our best to get it while we can!

No napping - Guayaki Yerba Mate inspires us to get out and go for it. |
Mary and I are both pretty pissed off about the presidential election and the circus that is shaping up to take the reigns of our country. Perhaps that is in some part why we have been needing more time focused on our workouts where it can be easier to separate yourself form the bad even if that bad is a reality .

Paddle boarding brings balance in more ways than one! |
The waves have been characteristically small but were at least pretty consistent earlier this fall. We made marginal surf days into adventure training by rolling out for extended missions on our surf bikes, laden with boards and kit.

Original Broderick Family MTB morphed into surf bike |

It is amazing training to smash these tanks down the beach for miles even if we never find a wave worthy of switching sports |

we are glad to be able to fly on our race steeds out on the local trails even during hunting season . |
We have been sticking to the higher output at lower speeds offered so perfectly by the Enduro bikes. Staying off road in the relative shelter provided by the burly little forests that all but makes a tunnel out of our narrow paths is the place to be!

Golden hour in the Beetlebung grove |
It feels good to be locking into a familiar program that will prepare us for the diversity of challenges that we are taking on this season. It is also really clear now more than ever that getting in our physical workout every day (or on the schedule that works for us) is far more than just sport. It is equally important as a form of meditation that has the power to stimulate the mind and make things better in all aspects of our lives!
Hope that you can make the time to figure out and stick to a custom routine that works for you!
All the best,Mike and Mary
