4 Luxury African Safari Destinations We Want To Go To In 2017

Visiting Africa has been at the top of our bucket-list for a long time now, thanks to its kind people, stunning sunsets and, of course, incredible wildlife. But 2017 is the year where we finally make our dream of visiting Africa come true, and the team at www.africansafarihome.com has helped us come up with a list of 4 luxury African Safari Destinations to visit in 2017:

1. The Kruger National Park, South Africa

If, like us, you're dying to see the Big Five then the Kruger National Park is the place for you. The Big Five refer to the elephant, lion, leopard, rhino and buffalo, aka the five largest, most dangerous African mammals.

But it's not just these five, the Kruger National Park is a sanctuary for many other large mammals including giraffes, zebras, hyenas and hippos.

In fact, the Kruger National park is home to more than 140 different species of large mammal - more than anywhere else on earth!!

The Kruger National Park is also ginormous! - About the same size as Israel.

But it's not all about the wildlife, Kruger National Park is also the site for many luxury accommodations including the Royal Malewane - voted as one of the Best 50 Resorts in the World - Conde Nast Readers Choice Awards 2016

2. The Serengeti, Tasmania

Often featured in National Geographic documentaries, the Serengeti looks out of this world. We really, really, really want to see the Great Animal Migration: every year over 2 million animals roam through the Serengeti, searching for better grazing. Although it's just herbivores doing the moving (like zebras, wildebeests and gazelles), they attract the predators (like lions, hyenas and crocodiles).

What makes seeing this magnificent act of nature even better? Staying in luxury accommodation of course! Singita Faru Faru lodge offers all the five star perks and is located right on the migratory route - expect the unexpected!!

3. Okavango Delta, Botswana

Thanks to the many waterways and channels in the Delta, lots of wildlife is present here like lions, giraffes and zebras but also crocodiles and hippos.

We would love to go on a Mokoro safari here. A Mokoro is a dug out canoe and provides the best experience - you get to see the animals right up close! Beware of hippos though, many people don't realise how dangerous hippos are (thanks, Disney). But hippos are actually the most dangerous large land animal in Africa!
Lots of luxury lodges in the Okavango Delta offer Mokoro safaris (among other things), and many are situated on stilts above the channels!

4. Maasai Mara, Kenya

Last, but certainly not least is taking a hot air balloon safari above the Maasai Mara, Kenya. Here you can watch the sun rise above the horizon and see the wildlife from a completely new perspective: zebra, elephants, lions and (my favourite) giraffes. My grandparents lived in Kenya for many years, and my mum and uncle were born there, so I'm dying to go! A hot air balloon ride sounds like the ultimate luxury African safari to me.
