News from Europe!

July 27, 2010

Hello!

Greetings, from a campground in Europe... :-)

The sound of rushing water and sights of jutting craggy mountain tops surround us here in Champery, Switzerland.  We have lingered here at our favorite World Cup venue a few extra days to recover from our race efforts on Sunday and the extensive travel to get here.

It's hard to believe we were racing in the middle of the Colorado Rocky Mountains last weekend and are here now in the Swiss Alps. It's been a bit of a struggled to catch up with sleep and feel rested since we arrived here but all is well and we are stoked to be here! After 2 weeks in CO, we feel like we are in an oxygen tank!

The Stage race we did in Colorado Springs and National Championships the following weekend went pretty well for us, considering the high elevation.  We did our best to prepare for these events, but when it comes down to it, racing in the thin air is unfortunately not our specialty.  The heart and lungs can barely keep up with the legs.  Nonetheless, we managed to pull off some solid results and made the podium... But I think the highlight of our time in beautiful CO was the scenery and opportunity catch up with our friends, fans and some of our fantastic sponsors at the race venues.  Mtb racing in the USA is definitely thriving with a lot of talented up and comers.  It was great to see so many people enjoying the challenges and joys of racing bikes.

Back on track in Europe...

We had great races at the 4th WC this past Sunday.  The plentiful oxygen really allowed us to push to our physical limits.  The track was incredibly difficult and technical- mud, root carpets, rocks, steep drops... one of the most difficult all year - we loved it!

I raced hard, and managed 12th, which was very close to the top 6, all within a minute in front of me and 2 minutes off the podium... Definitely felt strong and raced well.  These days, any of the top 20 women in the world could be on the podium...  pretty exciting to race side by side all these incredible female athletes.

Mike had the best race of his 2010 WC season... He had to start in the 80s of 180, loosing precious minutes due to traffic on the first few laps,  but he just kept strong and positive, moving forward riding the track as well as the best, up thru the field to finish 42nd!! Yeah! Proud of him.

We have a bit of a trek to get to Val di Sol, Italy, and we figure we better take the longer scenic route thru the alps.  the small winding roads on the map look amazing...

The next World Cup Race is Saturday and then we come home tues.
Quick, but action packed trip to Europe.

Wishing you all well.
